Sacrament of Confirmation
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year journey of faith that typically begins in the 7th grade and continues through the 8th grade in our Parish School of Religion (PSR) program.
During these two years, candidates deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith. They learn about the Holy Spirit and discover how His gifts strengthen them to live as faithful disciples, active members of the Church, and witnesses to the Gospel. Confirmation preparation is more than classroom instruction, it is an invitation to encounter Christ, participate more fully in the life of the Church, and respond to God's call to holiness and service. Throughout the program, candidates will grow through prayer, Scripture, the sacraments, service, and community.
As part of their preparation, candidates will participate in a monthly prep class (see details below), overnight retreat during the winter, and complete a service project, providing opportunities to deepen their faith while putting it into action through Christian service. Our hope is that each candidate approaches Confirmation not simply as the completion of a program, but as a lifelong commitment to living the Catholic faith with courage, joy, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
PSR Confirmation Classes meet on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. on the first floor of the Family Life Center.
A separate registration is required for Confirmation in addition to the PSR 8th registration.

Each confirmation candidate chooses a saint as a patron and is confirmed under that patron saint's name thus taking on a "new identity in Christ".

CONFIRMATION SPONSOR*
Each confirmation candidate is required to have a sponsor. Parents are encouraged to assist their son/daughter in the choosing process. Encourage them to think and PRAY about it.
A child's parent may not be the Sponsor. As a parent, he/she already has the role of sponsoring. The sponsor should support and help the parents in this role.

Formal Confirmation preparation in the 8th grade is two-fold, taking place both in the classroom through Our Lady of Sorrows School and PSR, as well as through monthly Confirmation preparation sessions. These monthly sessions address specific topics and aspects of Confirmation preparation that enrich the regular OLS School and PSR curriculums. Both the confirmandi and their parent(s) are expected to participate in these monthly preparation sessions, providing an opportunity for families to grow together in faith and better understand the significance of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Dinner will be provided at these monthly meetings.

For 7th grade parents, you have a service opportunity to help at these monthly meetings. Prayerfully consider signing up to help serve the dinners at these meetings. This is also an opportunity for you to witness the preparatory Confirmation journey that you will be participating in next year.
